MASHIGO
WEDNESDAY 19.00
1. Best side one, track one of all time:
Excursions by A Tribe Called Quest off Low End Theory
2. How do you organise your records? Chronological? Alphabetical? AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL?
By genre, e.g., hip hop, UK hip hop, funk & soul, dance/electronic, rock, pop.
3. What is your favourite vinyl / music related movie quote?
24 Hour Party People. Tony Wilson: "And tonight something equally epoch-making is taking place. See? They're applauding the DJ. Not the music, not the musician, not the creator, but the medium. This is it. The birth of rave culture. The beatification of the beat. The dance age. This is the moment when even the white man starts dancing. Welcome to Manchester."
4. What is your white whale album?
There's too many on my list, but off the top of my head, "We're The Ace Players" by Ace Players (a super rare 45), "Contemporary Jeep Music" by Da King & I, or something I just haven't picked up yet like "ATLiens" by Outkast.
5. What is no-skip, all killer no filler album in your collection?
It's between OK Computer by Radiohead, or Los Angeles by Flying Lotus
6. Best album closer of all time:
"Welcome to The Show" from Donuts by J Dilla. It samples "When I Die" by Motherlode, and seeing as Donuts was released just before Dilla died, it's quite a brutal track to end on.
